About us

Oxfordshire Chinese Brush Painting Group (OCBPG) was set up by a group of enthusiasts who wanted to learn more about this fascinating art form, and practise their developing skills together. The aim of the group is to promote Chinese Brush Painting in all its’ forms. We do this by meeting regularly, holding workshops, talks and visits and organising exhibitions of members’ work.

In addition, we usually organise a programme of day workshops from experienced Chinese Brush Painting tutors throughout the year including with the international artist, Qu Leilei, one of the original members of the Stars Art Movement in China in the 1970’s and 80’s. The full programme will be available in Workshops and Events. It usually takes place in Stanton Harcourt Village Hall but also other Oxfordshire locations. Members currently have the unique bonus of access to tuition from Chinese Artists and Tutors based in China.

We hold regular monthly meetings on the fourth Thursday of the month from 1pm to 4pm in the excellent facilities of Stanton Harcourt Village Hall. Here, you can get support from friendly like-minded people, borrow books from our excellent Library, and the group stocks basic Chinese Art Supplies for members to buy at cost. There may also be workshops in other locations.

We are a warm and welcoming community and you are more than welcome to contact us if you would like to try out this beautiful art form, or if you are a more experienced painter and want to share your skills and learn with others.

We began exhibiting in 2018. You can see some examples of members’ work in our Galleries section.

If you are interested in joining, please visit the Membership section of the website. Remember, we welcome complete beginners as well as more experienced artists. All you need is an interest in Chinese Art.
